In addition to Fly Fishing, Agiocochook Wilderness Adventures offers wilderness survival and primitive skills courses. These courses, which can be tailored to an individual’s needs, seek to instill in the individual the skills necessary to not only survive in the mountains but thrive, and truly enjoy developing the ability to be totally self-reliant in the backcountry.
Skills and topics covered will be making shelter, fire, and finding food and water. These are the sacred four elements of survival. Other skills taught will be signaling and navigating without a map and compass if rescue is not an option. Also covered will be how to develop a survivors brain and maintain a positive outlook and personality.
Survival is the art of staying alive. A positive mental attitude is as important as endurance and knowledge. You must know how to make shelter, fire, and find water and food. You must know how to attract attention to yourself (signal) so rescuers can find you, and make your way across unknown territory back to civilization if there is no hope of rescue, navigating without map and compass. You need to stay healthy and keep up your spirits and those around you.
